I was very excited today to watch the first eBay auction come to a close, for the weekly advertising slot that appears on the home page of this site.

In the interests of keeping this entire experiment transparent, I would like to share with you the winning bid. Keep in mind, this is the winning bid for 7 full days of exclusive advertising, starting on Sunday at midnight. The winning bid was $1.40 – yep, this works out to be just 20 cents a day for the winning bidder, and probably less than half of what you’ll spend on your next double-shot skinny latte from Starbucks.
Based on current traffic trends for One Million Hit Wonder, the exposure this fortunate advertiser will receive is not to be sneezed at. Here’s hoping that the upwards trend in visitors will continue, and that many more advertisers can benefit from this very economical form of advertising.
You can find out who this lucky chap who won this week’s ebay auction by visiting this site after midnight tomorrow (Sunday midnight in the UTC-6 timezone) .

As an aside – there have been a couple of comments from visitors and peers lately, questioning the motives of One Million Hit Wonder. I must stress, this is an experiment, in which the primary objective is to achieve the end goal, of attracting 1 million unique visitors to this site per week. This is the first and foremost reason for this site’s existence, it is not simply another ‘gimmicky’ built with dollar signs in mind. Sure, everyone loves making a few pennies along the way, I’d be lying if I didn’t say revenue doesn’t interest me, but I’m also a firm believer in sharing not only this experience with the public, but also some of the revenue.
Thus, if in the case that I do make any significant revenue from this site, I have selected Virgin Unite as my charity of choice, and a portion of this revenue will go directly to this very worthy cause.
