Take this piece for example, of the craziest Urinals in the World.

There is nothing going for this article. It’s in a non-English language, it covers an utterly ridiculous topic, it does not enrich your life in any way, shape or form….but this article has received some serious traffic!

The question is, why has this article received so much traffic? Do people just love toilet humor? Has there been a void on the internet for crazy toilets that has only just been recognised?

What do you think is the reason this article is so popular? Leave your comments below.

I was very excited today to watch the first eBay auction come to a close, for the weekly advertising slot that appears on the home page of this site.

In the interests of keeping this entire experiment transparent, I would like to share with you the winning bid. Keep in mind, this is the winning bid for 7 full days of exclusive advertising, starting on Sunday at midnight. The winning bid was $1.40 – yep, this works out to be just 20 cents a day for the winning bidder, and probably less than half of what you’ll spend on your next double-shot skinny latte from Starbucks.

Based on current traffic trends for One Million Hit Wonder, the exposure this fortunate advertiser will receive is not to be sneezed at. Here’s hoping that the upwards trend in visitors will continue, and that many more advertisers can benefit from this very economical form of advertising.

You can find out who this lucky chap who won this week’s ebay auction by visiting this site after midnight tomorrow (Sunday midnight in the UTC-6 timezone) .

To bid on the next advertising slot and score your business some exposure at the right price, visit the eBay auction.

As an aside – there have been a couple of comments from visitors and peers lately, questioning the motives of One Million Hit Wonder. I must stress, this is an experiment, in which the primary objective is to achieve the end goal, of attracting 1 million unique visitors to this site per week. This is the first and foremost reason for this site’s existence, it is not simply another ‘gimmicky’ built with dollar signs in mind. Sure, everyone loves making a few pennies along the way, I’d be lying if I didn’t say revenue doesn’t interest me, but I’m also a firm believer in sharing not only this experience with the public, but also some of the revenue.

Thus, if in the case that I do make any significant revenue from this site, I have selected Virgin Unite as my charity of choice, and a portion of this revenue will go directly to this very worthy cause.

I had a little bit of spare time on my hands today, and some of you might know that I am a little bit keen on tshirts, so I thought I’d design a tshirt dedicated to my quest here on One Million Hit Wonder (the quest, of course is to attract one million unique visitors per week to this very site!).

All in all, I’m quite happy with the design of this tee. Despite being a rather simple, it has a raw and slightly tongue-in-cheek feel to it. As you have probably guessed, the phrase “one hit wonder”, best used to describe the dodgy bands who fluked it into the ‘top 40′ music charts back in the 60′s and 70′s, was my inspiration for this website, so I wanted the One Million Hit Wonder t-shirt design to reflect this.

With the help of my good friends at Zazzle.com, the One Million Hit Wonder tshirt is now available for sale.

To buy the One Million Hit Wonder tshirt, just click here. I will be donating 10% of the profits for these tshirts to Virgin Unite.

The gates have opened and One Million Hit Wonder has opened it’s doors to the public.

It’s only a soft-launch so far, as I want to I iron out a few small technical bits and pieces before I start spreading the word about this to my friends, colleagues, and to the general public on forums and through social media. .

I’m really excited about this project. I think it could be big! Come to think of it, I hope my web host is bracing for the extra traffic.

Peace.
